Nashville Early Music Ensemble at Christ Church Cathedral

The recently formed Nashville Early Music Ensemble will perform at Christ Church Cathedral at 900 Broadway in Downtown Nashville on Tuesday, December 4, at 8:00 p.m.

The ensemble is designed to perform the vocal and instrumental music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods as well as traditional folk music from several world cultures. The twenty-member ensemble features musicians with diverse music backgrounds but all with experience in early music. The instruments featured in the concert will be viols, violin, rebec, lute, ud, guitars, psaltery, harp, recorders, and a wide variety of percussion. The director is Dr. Gerald Moore, a retired music professor from Lipscomb University, who taught music theory and directed the Lipscomb Early Music Consort for over twenty-five years.

The NEME will be presenting Feliz Navidad Canciónes de América Latina with twenty selections from several Latin American cultures. Featured in the concert will be carols, folk songs, motets, and processional songs from such countries and cultures as Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.

The concert will open with a measured chant from Colonial Mexico "Quicumque Christum queritis." Also included in the program in celebration of Christmas will be an Aztec drum processional "Teponazcuicatl" and a Lutheran hymn "Hacia Belén se encamina." The concert will close with an Argentinian carol "El cielo canta."

The NEME will be presenting a Valentine concert, She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Columbia, TN, at 3:00, on Sunday, February 10. The concert is free and open to the public.
