Latin America is not normally associated with early music so it was a unique pleasure to be introduced to the many folk traditions and the little known contributions of classical Latin American composers. NEME is unique in its commitment to revealing little known treasures of early music and introducing audiences to the unfamiliar timbres and colors of rarely heard instruments like the sackbut, ud, theorbo or rebec. Nashville is lucky to be their home!"

Susan Dupont, Chair, Sacred Space for the City Arts Series,
Christ Church Cathedral, Nashville

"I have attended several performances of the Nashville Early Music Ensemble. Besides the high musical expertise of the musicians, I enjoy the great selections of the repertoire. Dr. Moore likes to include music from many nationalities and traditions, including Spain and Latin America. This international aspect of their concerts gives an immense variety to the programs and offers the audience the opportunity to explore and be opened to a universe of endless musical possibilities."

Pablo Garzon, Director
Serenatta Romantic Latin Ensemble

"Any concert by Nashville Early Music Ensemble is a treat. The variety of cultures represented in their repertoire and their fine musicianship open a window onto centuries of engaging music most contemporary audiences have never heard. Try to hear them in the Parthenon or Christ Church Cathedral, venues which re-create the acoustical feel of the halls the music was written for."

Wesley Paine, Director
The Parthenon, Centennial Park, Nashville

"The Nashville Early Music Ensemble is a group with impressive character, style, and musicality. The richness of tonal sonority and clarity of articulation from the performers is a delight for the audience and an opportunity for us to step back in time. Performances by the ensemble, under the direction of Gerald Moore, always leaves us enthralled and enthusiastic about the literature from a style period that is less visited and expressed during these contemporary years."

Dewayne Pigg, Professor of Music
Middle Tennessee State University
Director, Nashville Double Reed Ensemble

"The Nashville Early Music Ensemble presented a thematic musical tour of love songs from around the world in original languages. The well prepared ensemble of voices and period instruments was varied and fast paced. Kudos to their artistic director, Gerald Moore, for introducing us to little known but interesting repertoire. We all would do well to listen and perform global music as we expand our cultural awareness. Music is the universal language!"

Marsha Scheusner, Music Director
First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, Tennessee

"The Nashville Early Music Ensemble gave a superb performance at the Parthenon this spring. Their programming of Spanish music was delightful-rich, varied and perfect for the acoustics of our building. The combination of vocalists and instruments was beautiful-next time we plan to have a longer concert!"

Mimi Smimmin, Special Events Coordinator
Metro Nashville ParksBrentKMoorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00731222182579627373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6880981606891799722.post-65270431001795042562009-08-31T02:41:00.001-05:002009-11-20T23:51:16.486-06:00Ensemble Members' Biographical SketchesMusicians who are or have been active in the NEME

Larry Brown has a B.A. from Lipscomb University, an M.A. from Abilene Christian University, M.A.R. from Harding Graduate School of Religion, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska.
