Early Music in Nashville Continues...

Although the Nashville Early Music Ensemble has discontinued with the sudden passing of the groups founder, Early Music in Nashville will continue! Many members of the NEME have formed the Nashville Early Music Project. Be sure to check their website for upcoming concert dates, news and merchandise.

Final Performance of the Nashville Early Music Ensemble

Lipscomb University’s Faculty & Friends Concert Series presents the Nashville Early Music Ensemble at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30 in Ward Hall.

The ensemble performs Medieval and Renaissance music as well as folk songs from many world cultures. The musicians sing in original languages and perform on period instruments.

The concert is presented in honor of the late Dr. Gerald Moore, founder of the ensemble. Dr. Steve Rhodes will conduct.

The concert “She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not” features love songs and songs of unrequited love with music from Afganistan, Croatia, England, Germany, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Northern Ireland, and Spain as well as music from the Sephardic and Yiddish traditions.

This event is free and open to the public. There will be opportunity to contribute to the Dr. Moore Scholarship Fund in his honor.

Dr. Moore - Director

Dr. Gerald L. Moore

The Nashville Early Music Ensemble is saddened today at the passing of their conductor Dr. Gerald L. Moore. He was a retired music professor from Lipscomb University, who taught music theory and directed the university Early Music Consort for over twenty-five years. Dr. Moore is survived by his wife, Barbara, and two sons, Scott and Brent.

Visitation will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Nashville, TN on Sat., Feb. 13 at 1-4 pm in the Chapel.

The Funeral Service will be at Crieve Hall Church of Christ on Sun., Feb. 14 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the soon-to-be-established Dr. Gerald L. Moore Music Student Scholarship Fund at Lipscomb University.

The Nashville Early Music Ensemble is designed to perform the vocal and instrumental music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods as well as folk music from several world cultures. The twenty-seven member ensemble features musicians with diverse musical backgrounds but all with experience in early music. Instruments used by the ensemble include viols, lutes, guitars, ud, psaltery, harp, violin, recorders, sackbut, and a wide variety of percussion. The singers perform in original languages. The ensemble director is Dr. Gerald Moore, a retired music professor from Lipscomb University, who taught music theory and directed the university Early Music Consort for over twenty-five years.

Spring 2010 Performances:

The Nashville Early Music Ensemble will soon be presenting She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not, songs of love and unrequited love.  On Tuesday, March 30, at 8:00 p.m., the ensemble will be performing in Ward Hall on the the campus of Lipscomb University.  On Tuesday, April 6, at 8:00 p.m., the ensemble will be repeating the concert at the Renaissance Center in Dickson, Tennessee.

The ensemble performs music from past centuries, and the concert will include music from Afghanistan, England, Germany, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Macedonia, Spain and Turkey.  The ensemble performs on period instruments and sings in original languages.  For additional information, telephone (615)966-5794.
